Hair extensions aftercare

Not following aftercare instructions will result in your hair becoming dry and damaged.

  • Wash your hair with 2 clarifying shampoos to remove product build up and do not use conditioner as this can cause the extensions to slip. Please ensure your hair is dry and straight ready for fitting.

  • Only use products recommended by me as they must be sulphate free, as some products can shorten the lifespan and quality of the hair. I recommend hair extension boost masks over most hair oils as oils can cause your extensions to slip. Try and wash your hair at most twice a week, otherwise, you will cause unnecessary stress on them. When washing gently massage the shampoo into your hair and scalp and rinse. DO NOT SCRUB. Only apply conditioner to the mid-lengths and ends. Use a towel to lightly press the water out of your hair. Be extra careful when brushing your wet hair as it is in its most fragile state. ALWAYS dry your hair after washing otherwise matting can occur.

  • You can apply heat to hair however, overuse can dry out the hair and damage it. ALWAYS USE HEAT PROTECT, when applying heat to the extensions and your own hair. Please avoid the top of the extensions when applying heat as they can melt the bonds.

At night your hair should be in a loose plait to avoid matting. Using a silk pillow case can also help reduce tangling.

  • Brush your hair at least twice a day with a hair extension brush or tangle teaser to prevent hair from slipping. This should be done gently starting at the bottom and working your way up holding the top of the extensions.

Separate your extensions regularly to avoid matting. Natural hair sheds every day so this is to prevent matting between the extensions and your natural hair.

  • It is highly recommended that you do not colour the extensions as it may cause them to dry out and reduce the lifespan of them. Toners may be needed occasionally but unnecessary processing will dry them out. Your own hair can still be coloured with your extensions in, as long as the chemicals don’t touch the tips/bonds. I advise your t-section and hairline only.

  • Swimming with extensions is not advised however, if you do, plait your extensions and try and keep them dry.

If they get wet with chlorine or salt water please use a deep conditioning treatment as they may dry out and discolour. This is due to the chemicals and minerals in the water not the hair.

UV rays can also dry out, fade or discolour extensions and break down bonds, so please wrap the hair in a towel if sunbathing or using a sunbed.

  • Your hair extensions must be maintained and checked every 6-8 weeks by myself. This is to ensure no damage is done to your own hair. You may lose 10-15 strands within this time but they can be reused. Removal should be performed by a fully qualified technician.

Mesh integration aftercare

Not following aftercare instructions will potentially result in your hair becoming damaged and your extensions not lasting as long as possible.

  • Wash your hair with 2 clarifying shampoos to remove product build up and do not use conditioner as this can cause the mesh to slip. Please ensure your hair is dry and straight ready for fitting.

  • You can wash the system. I would only recommend washing it once a week maximum, because your hair is growing and still producing the lovely natural oils it may cause slight itching but this is relieved when washed. The hair used will never look greasy as it isn’t directly on your scalp. When you wash your hair you want to be very gentle and use smoothing actions rather than a scrub. Only use sulphate free shampoo and NEVER wash the system upside down (e.g not over the bath). When applying conditioner, only put on mid-lengths and ends and rinse thoroughly.

  • The system is 100% human hair meaning you can style it as you wish. You can apply heat to hair however, overuse can dry out the hair and damage it. ALWAYS USE HEAT PROTECT when applying heat to the extensions and your own hair.

At night your hair should be in a loose plait to avoid matting. Using a silk pillow case can also help reduce tangling.

  • The system must be brushed every day but do not brush hard and if you get some knots then blow-dry the knots and rub gently with you fingers to loosen them. Try to be careful when brushing to not catch any of the threads.

  • It isn’t necessary to colour your hair when having a mesh integration system due to having a closure on top and not seeing you natural hair. However, if you have a half head and would like to wear it up, it is advisable to get it to as close a match to your natural colour or to colour the hairline and bottom section.

  • Your mesh integration system will need a pinch forward appointment 4-5 weeks after fitting, and a refit 8-10 weeks after initial fitting (4-5 weeks after pinch forwards appointment). The pinch forwards appointment isn’t a must but it keeps it looking as natural as possible. The refit is a must due to natural hair shedding this allows us to release all the natural hair to be shed and get fresh sections. You can wear a soft head band to cover the hairline close to your appointment if desired.

It is normal to notice some bald patches in your lace closure after a few months of wear, to prevent this I would advise you to not scratch or brush hard over it, lace closures are quite delicate.

Eyelash aftercare

Not following aftercare will result in bad retention and potential damage to your natural lash.

  • I recommend that your lashes are washed with nouveau lashes lash lid and foaming cleanse. Ensure you are following the aftercare advice, failure to do so can lead to adverse reactions. If redness or irritation does occur, apply a damp cotton wool compress and if symptoms persist, then consult your GP.
